I've never seen anything like this. It's great that I getto be in a situation like this with a bunch of guys who are just amazing. I think
I've seen more media than players today. This first day has definitely been an
experience.
We went out there and felt how the weather is going to be like. We're going to have to battle the weather. We're going to have to battle
the fans. And we're definitely going to have to battle Detroit.
So it's going to be very interesting. I expect us to go out there and play our
best baseball and just battle, go to war like we did against San
Diego and we did against the Mets.
Going onto the field last night was probably the best
feeling in the world, just knowing that we were going to the World Series. We
went back into the locker room and had a big champagne fight, spraying
everybody who was in that place. After that, the feeling was still the same as
we rolled to the plane. We had a lot of funny stories, people singing, we ate
well and we slept a little bit. It was only about an hour and 15 minute ride,
so some of us took a little power nap and then we got to the hotel. We rested
up, and then we came to the ballpark for practice.
Everything has been great so far. So far the media and Detroit have welcomed us with open arms. We'll see tomorrow, because I'm sure tomorrow some
people will change their minds.
I think Tony should start all the bench players in game one and give the ball to Reyes to begin the series. This would give all the starters an extra day off to heal, the bench players a few at bats against Detroit pitching, and also allow the rotation to get back to their normal 4 days rest. Weaver--Game 2 on the road where he pitches better. (Even though I was there for game five in St. Louis and he pitched great!) Carpenter--Game 3 at home where he pitches better. Suppan--Game 4 at home where the fans can give him a warm welcome for the great job he did in the NLCS. Weaver--Game 5 at home on three days rest. Carpenter--Game 6 on 3 days rest. And Suppan--Game 7 on three days rest.

Hi John!
Congratulations! Yadi!! Supp!! Wow. I am so happy for the team, and it's good to hear that Detroit is a better host than Boston. Every little thing counts! Good luck tomorrow. Tell Tony everybody thinks you'd make a sweet DH. We're all behind you back at home. Sea of red, everywhere you go. St. Louis is going nuts right now and we can't wait to get our boys back on home turf. I'm skipping class to go to the game Wednesday. Go Cards!

This is it, the start of the 2006 World Series, and it couldn't be a better one. J-Rod, good luck to you and your teammates, and remember, the St. Louis fans are behind you all the way!

JJ,
Congratulations on making it to the World Series. Its great to see you celebrating with the team on TV. My brother, Toby wrote to you on Day 1 of the blog on October 3rd and just now told me about it. To think, your baseball career started in Central Park and now you're playing in the World Series. Titi Mary says Hi and is so proud of you. Stay focused on helping the team win the World Series. Call us after the Series is over no matter what happens. We would love to get together and catch up.
Good Luck in the Series and I know you will set your mark in the games!!!

I think the Cards are just one of those clubs you just have to like. The good guys of baseball. Even as a Detroit fan, I remember rooting for the Cards in the playoffs over the years, and nothing changed this year during the regular season or playoffs.
Of course I want my Tigers to win, but it's very nice to see St. Louis representing the NL. I'm sure quite a few other Tigers fans feel the same. Good luck to you!

John, Thanks for this great blog! You guys had so many ups & downs this season, & what an exciting climax we are having now! All these pennants will look so nice in the new Busch Stadium, so let's go get another one! Congrats to you all, & keep up the good work!

Hi John, wow what a great feeling this is for us as fans, I can't imagine how it feels for you. But how I want you guys to fee is fired up, because EVERYONE, all the analysts, everyone I talk says the Tigers are going sweep you, that you guys don's stand a chance. So I hope you all go out there and tame those Tigers and show them what Cardinal baseball is all about. We are no just some team, we didn't limp in on a wild card, we are the National League Champions, and I know that we are quite capable of showing the Tigers what that is all about, what Cardinal baseball is all about. So go get them, I am so proud of this team. Go Cardinals!

John, I'm a Tigers fan here in Detroit, and just wanted to say hey and welcome to the city. :) I'm glad your experience thus far has been good.

Hi John,
Let me start by saying that I am a HUGE Mets fan and this post is SO not directed to you, but rather to the Cards fans who felt it was necessary to talk sh*t on the Mets site. How dare you! Both teams played their ***** off and someone had to lose. unfortunately it was the best team in the league. It was a great series right up to the 9th inning of game seven and to tell us, the Mets fans, that our team ***** is laughable! They battled back over and over and have more heart than your team and their fans are more loyal than any other teams can ever hope to be. Let's see how much smack you talk when you are let down the way we were.
Lets add to the equation the lack of class that Pujolz displayed with his comments about Glavine. Is he kidding me? Yeah, Glavine was horrible that day..hahahahaha. he shut his sorry *** down. In fact, our pitchers pretty much silenced his bat for the entire series. Add to that the fact that the team showed an incredible lack of class and I am talking LOW RENT when they mocked our "Jose" chant )ole ole....) in the locker room. You can bet your a$$es that if we had won in your house, we would have been gracious. In fact, when asked if the better team had won, Omar Minaya said "yes" when in fact the better team did NOT win. David Wright et al have more class and heart in one thumb than your club has altogether. One mistake by Heilman and you got lucky. Notice I didn't say your team ******". Good luck in Detroit, but I wouldn't plan any parades yet, because Detroit IS a better team. Choke on THAT for awhile.
A disgruntled Mets fan.

While I am at it, and this IS directed at you...You showed a lack of class by not mentioning the effort of the Mets. My god, do you ALL need charm school???

Well, I am glad it's going to be St. Louis facing my Tigers. St. Louis and the Cards have the second best fans in the world (after Detroit, of course). We've faced each other twice, and each have a record of 7-7 (1934 & 1968). Plus, the two series that we have been in are among the best series ever played. So, as a die-hard Tigers fan, I congratulate you on a hard fought NLCS, and wish you folks luck in the Series (but not quite enough luck to beat the Tigers). And now, let's play ball.

Hey John,
I am not sure what series briteeyes32 was watching. But, I watched every single game on tv and was disgusted by all of the booing of every single one of our players by all of the fans at Shea stadium. In fact, a co-worker of mine is a Mets fan and was also disturbed by all of the nastiness. While I agree that Albert shouldn't have said what he did about Tom Glavine(because it just didn't show much sportsmanship), the way that every player on our team was booed during every game at Shea didn't either. The Mets players didn't receive that same treatment in St.Louis because our fans are classy and we respect good baseball. I do believe, however, that the best team won. If that were not true, the Mets would be in the World Series instead of our Cardinals.
John, I hope that you see more playing time during this series. Thank you for this blog. Every member of Cardinal Nation is with you in Spirit, and we know that you will bring the championship home to St.Louis. Good luck, and God bless each of you.

Great Job Cardinals.
I am a Mets fan who hates the cardinals but i have to give respect where respect is due.
The mets pitching was actually very good. They shut down Pujols, Encarnacion etc. It was the bottom of the order. Yadi, you, Taguchi, etc. You won it for your team. You should be very proud and you deserve it. I'll be routing for Detroit but if the NL brings it home, i won't be too upset.

And to follow up on arynn_1_cardsfan's point. Let the fans do whatever they wan't to do. The players are the ones that should show class.
John, you showed no disrespect whatsoever. The only bozo who did was Pujols. He needs shut his mouth. The Jose - Jose - Jose thing was just a joke. Baseball should be fun. Jose- Jose- Jose mocking was fun. But when Pujols said that, that was not fun for New York or Glavine.

Hey John!
J-Rod,I am your biggest fan ever!!! I love the way you carry yourself on and off the field, a total class act, and the fact that you are a strong Christian! WOW!!! Obviously i live in St. Louis, still on a high from the series! Congrats! You should be in the bigs! No doubt you're better than Taguchi and Schumaker. Taguchi is nothin short of pathetic right now. We are in dire need of another everyday outfielder. You will give that 2 us. We need all the help we can get at 8-11. I love watching you play, but I have 2 questions, why do you wear #53? And what pitch do you like to hit the most? You have to get called back up. NOW! if Larussa wants any everyday outfielder, Hello Tony! you sent him down to AAA for a reason not known to mankind, His name is John Rodriguez. Keep up the hard work, and I will see you in the Bigs again. No Problem, just do what you do man. Have faith, have fun, play hard. I really need to see 5-3 back in St. Louis, especially at the time we need him most. God bless you John!
-J-Rod's biggest fan!!!
