Great start

HighfivesNobody expected us to win tonight besides us, but we just went out there and proved that we could. I think that’s what made us more upset and more driven to win this game, and go out and win the next one, and the next one, and the next one after that.

Critics were saying that they were going to beat us in three, when we’ve got to play four. Let them keep underestimating us, and let us continue to be the underdog, because we love it right now.

It was amazing to be introduced for the World Series. Having the camera go by my face and knowing that my family and friends were watching was incredible. Knowing that I came from the projects. I came from having nearly nothing. I’m the only one from my neighborhood to be in the World Series or even go to pro ball. It’s a very big deal to me, a very big deal to my family and friends. They’re behind me 100 percent, and I’m sure they were going crazy after that third out in the ninth inning.

We didn’t spend any time talking about making up for 2004 or anything like that. We never talk about the past. We always look forward. Just like we haven’t talked about our regular season. Things change. Once you cross those lines, and it’s playoff time, everybody is even. The records are even and there’s nothing like that to be thinking about.

J-ROD AKA JOEBU
THREE MORE TO GO…

Im dying over here kid.
I have to work at 7am, but I wanted to be the first to post your name (JOEBU). Im trying to get it out man. I even emailed fox five lol. Alright well im done now so im going to bed. Yo remember im always going to be rooting for my nigg/\ Jay Jay from the block. haha

Three more like I said before..

You guys rocked! You are proving the underdog is a good place to be!

GO CARDS!

J-Rod. You are guys are playing great. Me and my buddy Mark are in the Marine Corps and stationed in San Diego. We were at the two games in SD, and I agree with you’re previous blog that SD is a beautiful city. We are flying into St Louis on Tuesday for the games. We wouldn’t miss it. He was in Iraq in 04′ and I had just gotten back and couldn’t come. It is going to be so exciting. Keep it going. Tom

so i was at a sports bar this evening down here in georgia, and the world series was playing on one television. the bar was relatively empty, but there was a couple sitting in front of the tv that cheered when pujols struck out in the first. obviously, they were tiger fans. not wanting to jump the gun, i held my tongue ’til the second inning. as we all know, it was an RBI double that scored the tigers first run. then, big scott rolen approaches the plate and delivers a monster solo shot to tie it up.

i stood up and cheered, and looked the detroit fans right in the eyes, saying “anything you can do, we can do better.”

and we did.

J-Rod, I have followed the “experts” picks this postseason, and so far, almost all of them have been wrong. You guys may be underdogs to them, but you are champions to the fans in St. Louis. Anthony Reyes was outstanding tonight, and the offense came through big time. Keep the good times rolling, and come back to STL with a 2-0 lead. GO CARDINALS!

Awesome game, what a thrill. Being the underdog feels so good! Reyes sure looked like the Reyes from June. Congrats! We didn’t hear the story (if there is one), what’s up with Ronnie’s hair?

Hey John,

I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of this team!!

One quick opinion: I, for one, did not think that Tony should have pulled Anthony out of there in the 9th inning.

Our lead was large enough, and I thought it would have been such a confidence-builder for him to go ahead and let him finish what he started. (And just think — to be able to say that “I pitched a complete game in the World Series.” But oh well, that’s just me!!)

You guys are terrific and I do believe that anything is possible!!

I BELIEVE IN THIS TEAM!! YOU CAN DO THIS!! GO GET ‘EM, MY FRIEND!!

Ryan J.

I think you guys finally have faith in yourselves as much as we, the fans, have in you. Keep the faith and stay strong. Eyes on the prize and give thanks for all gifts.

Unbelievable. You guys look like a different team… like the first half of the year team is back.. the swagger.. the confidence. We love it!! Congrats to all of you. Rolen looks like a man on a mission.. ever since the at bat before the missed home run in New York, when he fouled off about 10 pitches. It was easy to see that he’s seeing the ball well now. With everybody clicking and the pitchers showing up every night, this is baseball at it’s finest!!
Oh how we hope to see another World Series Championship!! It’s been too long. But even if we don’t see that.. we love you guys. Thanks for giving so many of us so many new exciting moments and memories! Keep up the great play!

VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

J-Rod, if you see Scotty Rolen, tell him that by going hitless in the last World Series and then breaking that slump by hitting the longball tonight, he’s in pretty good company. The last person to do it was Gil Hodges. Maybe Scotty will manage a team to the championship someday, too. Oh, and just to make it extra odd, Scotty and Gil grew up in Indiana towns that are less than thirty minutes apart. Go Cards!

John, Can you believe these guys who have been saying Reyes isn’t up to the task? I mean, he’s been the #1 pitching prospect for the Cards for some time, he 1-hit the White Sox earlier this year, and he’s got the stuff. Are they blind or what?

The kid just wasn’t quite ripe. Well, he’s been plucked from the tree now and his stuff is looking pretty juicy.

It’s great reading your posts every day. I don’t always post something but I always read what you have to say.

Stay on top of it and ready to play. Good luck and God bless you and all of the Cardinals.

Hi John,
I agree with cardsguy1966, I would have liked to see Tony give Anthony at least one more batter in the ninth. He pitched so beautifully I think he deserved that. But, I’m sure that Tony had his reasons for pulling him out. This game was just great all around!! Great job to everyone on the team. I know you are all glad to be there, and “we”(Cardinal Nation) are glad also.

Remember to keep your head in the game and also be thankful for what you are achieving each day. We look forward to you bringing home the championship. Good luck tonight and God bless each of you.

Hey John,

CONGRATS!!! And thank-you very much for this blog. I never miss it. Your right, no one but Cardinal Nation gave you guys a chance last night. Keep up the momentum!

Wonder where that tiger fan is now with his SWEEEEEEP trash talk? hehe

LET’S GO CARDS!!!

Hi John, great game! So I’m sitting here in Lady Lake Florida in a house full of all of my friends which are die hard Tigers fans, and very awesome classy people. We all do not trash talk to one another, but trash talking was not necessary for me, St. Louis Cardinal Baseball did the talking for me, all I had to do was sit back enjoy all the wonderful moments! Thanks for doin this site John it is awesome the insight it provides. Good luck tonight how great would it be to go back to St. Louis up 2 games! Go Cardinals

John,

The cardinals and their fans should be very excited. Being a loyal Tigers fan all my life, I have learned to be humble. You guys earned the victory last night and I congratulate you. The Cardinals, like the Tigers, are an awesome team.

My dad was born and raised 100 miles south of St. Louis, but came to Detroit in the 40′s to find work building cars. We have both been Cardinal fans when the Tigers aren’t winning. I have visited St. Louis many times and love the city and surrounding areas. The people have always been warm to me.

I hope the Cardinals team and their great fans are enjoying their treatment here in Detroit. We welcome you and hope you enjoy our hospitality. I look forward to a great World Series against two great teams.

Good luck the rest of the way. I’m sorry that one team has to lose.

I absolutely agree that both of these teams are special and a great matchup. The two managers and their friendships make the atmosphere between the two teams less intense, and really there doesn’t seem to be animosity or hatred towards anyone, like in New York! Maybe hatred is a strong word, but the way it felt to play in New York ******. It just felt like they were out for blood and had no respect for the Cardinals and how they got there. Then the Mets fans were talking about spitting on the Cardinals fans and all this other bogus ****. Usually I can’t even watch an Away game on TV because I can’t stand listening to the other fans, but I did not have that problem last night. A good reason for that was because of the way we played last night, but you can’t help but root for both teams. Of course, I am pulling for the Cardinals all the way. Go figure, everyone on SportsCenter is still betting on the Tigers, but we’ve heard it all before, right? Just keep doing what your doing, and I have a good feeling about the outcome. I can’t express how much I love, live and breath Cardinal baseball! Go get em guys!

J-Rod,
I am so proud of you guys! Last night was really a sweet victory, considering everyone said we would lose. I am so impressed with Yadi he is really gettting his game on. I met him at Toys r Us in STL he is a great guy. Keep up the hard work and I will see you all when you get back to STL

Go Cards! That was a great game! Reyes pitched like a champ. The offense was really hitting good last night. All right 3 more!

What an amazing game last night. I loved how the Cardinals answered back to all the so-called “experts” saying we would lose in three! Way to make them look stupid! : ) Keep it up.

Very excited for the Cardinals and St. Louis.

Awesome game last night. I have to say that I agree with cardsguy1966 though. I, along with my 9 and 11 year old daughters thought that Anthony should have been left in the game. They were actually yelling at the t.v. when Tony pulled him out of the game. Anthony was on his game last night that’s for sure. As well as all the players. You guys have made this such an enjoyable sport for me and my girls to watch. Thank you and GO CARDS!!!

To borth-s: We visited Chicago and Detroit when the Cards were on the road in June. Couldn’t get out of Chicago fast enough, the fans were rude and obnoxious. We were apprehensive about attending another team’s home turf, but Detroit was a wonderful experience, the fans around us were so nice. The Tigers immediately became our favorite AL team. So we are just loving the Tigers-Cardinals matchup. We wish Detroit well. Having said that . . . GO CARDS!!!!!!

Last night was so awesome. Our big bats came through for us and Reyes was so awesome. What happened to Ronnie Belliard’s hair, it is so weird! I have so much faith in Weaver tonight, he has been a great addition to the team. I can’t wait till I get to go to the world series on Wednesday. I love how every sports broadcaster has been saying that our team will lose in three, whats up with that. Cardinal Nation all knows you guys will win. Good luck and don’t forget to have fun. I love you all.

Way to start out strong in game 1. One down three to go. Keep doing what you are doing and your fans will keep doing what they are doing. Together lets achieve our dream. Good Luck tonight GO CARDS!!!!
Kim

am I the only one that noticed the american idol commercial? The ad started by showing a scorecard being hit by a baseball. The top of the scorecard read “mets v tigers”. Not only the experts, but apparently Fox also never gave the cards a chance at being here.

After such a good start last night, good luck tonight!
St. Louis will be rooting for you!! Go Cards!

I AM SO PROUD OF YOU GUYS. JOHN THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS. THE CARDINALS ARE BLESSED TO HAVE YOU WITH US. KEEP THE FAITH!!!
STEVE

great to see a kid from saint marys league to make it.scouts should go there more often there is a lot of talent up there.good luck kid!!

I just hope that EVERY sports writer is eating their words right about now! All we hear is Detroit this or that. Well the Cardinals are showing the world that they are not a second place team. I would like to write ESPN WHEN the Cardinals win the series just to let them know how wrong they were.

Underdogs?? What a great thing to be!
San Diego? Gone. The Mets? Gone. The Tigers? We’ll see.

But if its underdogs we gotta be, then so be it. The Cards were favorites to win the NLCS last year and see what happened? So mabey being an underdog isn’t that bad.

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good game last night. the team proved why they should be their. so good luck with the game tonight.

im a met -fan since forever they finaly get tto the division series and they lose their aces hey cards hows it feel you just barely beat a pitcher who if pedro and orlando whodn’t even be dreamin of the playoffs.Oh and u think puhols is good the mets will be back next year and they will knock u out!from a very mad met fan.

Please accept that your season is over. Sure, your team is great, but not good enough. Get over it. And how exactly do you define class?

Appreciate your time John. GO CARDS!

Don’t forget the Saint Louis Spirit~how good it will feel to be back at Bush Stadium! You guys are so lucky your still playing in the field at this point in season. . .that means somthing~ Take what’s yours! -Jamie Lee-

Anyone know the difference between a hot dog at Shea Stadium and one at Busch???…You can still get one at Busch!
Keep up the good work Cards!! We are loving every minute of it!

Don’t you just love it when a fan from an opposing team comes on with all the name calling and then has the audacity to call our team low class. They must be in a room with no mirrors.

I was listening to the game in my bunk at 3am. It was Game 7 of the ’68 series. My bunk was in Vietnam. That was then and bitter, this is Now and Oh So Sweet! Cards fan for 47th year. Such an incredible comeback on the year.

I went to this game and was the only Cards fan.
